Top 10 Halloween Activities to do with Your Little Monsters
Happy spooky month! Halloween is a couple weeks away, so we
decided to put together a list of fun Halloween themed family activities that
are fun and not too spooky for your little monsters. ;) Enjoy your family time!
Or should we say, enjoy your monster time!
Halloween Activities for Preschoolers and Toddlers
Halloween Movie Night
Movie night is an absolute must! There are so many great Halloween
themed movies that are appropriate for all ages. Of course there are the
classics like Casper and Charlie Brown, but there are tons of family Halloween
movies that have been released in the last few years. Hotel Transylvania,
ParaNorman, and Frankenweenie are all great movies that aren’t too scary for
your preschooler or toddler.
Baking Spooky Treats
Before you sit down for your family movie night, make sure you make some Halloween treats! October is the perfect opportunity to whip out your favorite recipes and transform them into spooky desserts and snacks. Whether you are making Spider Oreo Cookies, Jack-O-Lantern Rice Krispy Treats, or Fall Harvest Chex Mix, your little one will have loads of fun!
Dress-Up Day at Home
What kid doesn’t love playing dress up? The month of October is
the perfect chance for your kids to exercise their imagination and dress up as
their favorite characters, whether they be from a TV show, a book, or
completely made up. On the weekends, invite your kid’s friends and cousins
over. The only rule is that they must wear a costume!
Halloween Dinner
When the kids are done playing, you can make them a Halloween themed dinner. One of our favorite recipes is Chicken Boo-dle Soup. Even superheroes need a nice healthy meal to replenish their super powers!
Carve Jack-o-Lanterns
You can’t skip pumpkin carving, one of the most traditional Halloween activities! Carved pumpkins usually last between 5 and 10 days so we recommend saving this activity for a week before October 31st. Here are some free stencils.
Zoo-Boo at Rosamond Gifford Zoo
Zoo-Boo is a fun daytime adventure hosted by the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse. From 10am-3pm on Saturdays and Sundays, bring the kids dressed in their costumes and go trick or treating with the animals. They have plenty of stations for the kids to stop and explore, including a fortune teller, a potion demo, and more! Tickets for members are $8 with free zoo admission. For non-members tickets are $8 + zoo admission fees.
Halloween Crafts
Arts and crafts are always fun but they are especially fun when there is a holiday theme. Pinterest offers tons of ideas for fun creative activities for your child. Our favorite activities come from this list of 32 Halloween Crafts by redbook.
Spooky Home Décor
When you pull out your Halloween decorations, allow your child to
choose where some of the items go. Maybe they want to put your silly ghost
statue on the dining room table. Allowing them the freedom to choose where some
of the décor goes really gets them in the Halloween spirit and encourages them
to be creative.
Make Slime
Making slime is super easy and a lot of fun! Here is a quick and simple recipe. Your child can add any color and any glitter they like. As a bonus, decorate the jar you store it in as a new Halloween decoration. For example, glue craft eyes to a jar, then add white slime and you have a ghost.
Trick or Treat
Last but not least, Trick or Treating is the most anticipated
activity of the month. Let your kids dress up in whatever costume they want and
take them door to door. Go ahead and dress up with them, it’s only once a year!
