Early Childhood Center Prioritizes Health of Children & Staff: Air Purifiers Reduce Allergens at Local Little Lukes

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ranks air pollution as the #1 environmental threat to human health. They suggest improving the air quality indoors by eliminating the source of pollution, diluting the air when possible, and cleaning air with a high quality air purifier.

Little Lukes Preschool & Childcare Center has accepted the challenge of providing clean indoor air for children, families and staff.  With the help of Oswego County manufacturer, Intellipure, Little Lukes has installed the Super-V air purifiers at all of the daycare sites to provide fresh, clean, contaminant free air throughout the daycare centers.

“We understand that a higher percentage of children are negatively affected by asthma and allergies and want to be part of the solution.  By offering Clean Air Daycare for children in our care, we can give children a fresh start in life and healthier futures,” said Ed Alberts, administrator of Little Lukes Preschool & Childcare Center.

Little Lukes Preschool & Childcare Center partnered with Pulaski-based Intellipure, designer and manufacturer of the Super-V air purifier, to improve the quality of the indoor air for students, parents and staff. New world-class, medical-grade air purifiers remove ultrafine particles, chemicals, toxins, germs and odors using the Super-V technology from Intellipure.  Most importantly the new air purifiers help capture the smallest, most dangerous lung penetrating particles, including airborne viruses to help reduce the spread of illness.

“Children’s more sensitive immune systems makes them more prone to developing a bacterial or viral infection. In daycare, due to the many children in a confined space, it is inevitable that airborne germs will easily spread from one child to the next. Children with allergies also sneeze more often, releasing airborne germs into the air,” explained Melanie Groch, D.O. - Lakeshore ENT, Oswego Health.  “Air purifiers remove bacteria, viruses, and allergy particles from the air.  By installing air purifiers at all of the Little Lukes sites, children will not become sick as easily or as often, and the chances of an allergic attack are reduced. The installation of air purifiers at every Little Lukes will allow parents to bring home happy and healthy children at the end of the day. It is wonderful what Little Lukes is doing to improve the lives of families in our community,” continued Dr. Groch.

Intellipure president, Vinny Lobdell, said, “The World Health Organization stated Indoor air pollution is the greatest environmental threat of our time and can be particularly dangerous for our children. The patented Super V system is guaranteed to rid the environment of greater than 99% of all these dangerous particles, creating a much healthier and more enjoyable space. Little Luke’s Preschool and Childcare Center is the first center Nationwide to adopt medical grade air cleaning systems, showing their true commitment to providing the next level of comfort for their staff and children. “

“We want the children in our centers to have the healthiest environment possible while learning, growing and preparing for success in school,” said Tim Alberts, Regional Director of Little Lukes Preschool & Childcare Center. “The installation of the Super V systems is improving the health of the children in our centers, as well as the staff.”

As parents and grandparents drop off children for preschool and daycare each day, a large number of people enter daycare centers and preschools. With over 40 staff members and 80-90 children in a daycare building, this heavy traffic flow of children, parents and staff can create high concentrations of unhealthy indoor air.  Little Lukes is taking action to combat this issue.

Little Lukes offers an inclusion preschool model, where typically developing daycare children are integrated into a preschool classroom with children with a variety of developmental delays.  In-house teams of special education teachers, speech language pathologists, occupation & physical therapists offer developmentally appropriate interventions to help every child learn and succeed.  Children in this setting make substantial gains in their learning and development and acquire the skills needed for success in kindergarten and beyond.  Daycare services are available for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years, with locations in Fulton, Oswego, Pulaski, East Syracuse and Radisson.  For a tour of Little Lukes visit www.littlelukes.com and click the yellow Schedule a Tour button. https://www.littlelukes.com/ccscheduleatour.html
