Social and Emotional

qEnjoys social play (e.g. peek-a-boo)
qInterested in images in a mirror

qResponds to changes in your tone of voice (e.g. may smile when you speak in a happy voice)

Speech and Language

qMay respond to “no” (briefly stops doing something when you say “no” but may continue with activity)
qWhen  sound is heard, may make a sound in response
qUses voice to express happiness or frustration
qProduces a chain of babble (ba-ba-ba)
qExpresses happiness/joy and displeasure with voice

Sensory

qVision for distance improves
qBetter tracking of moving objects
qNotices toys that make noise

Cognitive

qFinds a partially hidden object (e.g. finding a toy half covered by a blanket)
qExplores objects with hands and mouth
qAttempts to get objects that are out of reach
qResponds to name by looking when name is heard

Gross Motor

qRolls both ways (front to back, back to front)
qSits; first with support then without support
qWhen held in standing position, sup- ports whole weight

Fine Motor

qReaches with one hand
qTransfers objects from hand to hand
qRakes objects with hand (uses all fingers to scoop an object into palm)
qHelps hold bottle

Each child develops at his/her own pace. Do not be alarmed if your child does not follow this exact sequence. If you have concerns about your child’s development, contact your doctor.  A child in this age range would be referred to the Early Intervention Program.
